What type of children does CRCC serve?

CRCC serves children with medically fragile conditions, developmental delays and other physical challenges. Some common medical needs include: cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, feeding disorders (tube feedings), seizure disorders and brain injuries. Children with behavioral disorders and mental health concerns are also served in specially designed programs.

What age ranges of children does CRCC serve?

CRCC’s clientele range from 6 weeks to 21 years old.

Can my child’s sibling also attend?

Yes. Siblings are excellent role models for their special needs peers, and are accepted up to about 15% of total enrollment and from 6 weeks of age until they begin kindergarten. At that time, other arrangements for before and after school must be made.

Can my child attend only on breaks and holidays?

Yes. CRCC welcomes children who need care only on days that schools are not in session, but they do need to be currently enrolled and reservations made in advance.

Does CRCC provide drop-in care?

Yes. CRCC is able to provide intermittent care to families with some advance notice. However, all children must be currently enrolled before care can be scheduled.

Does CRCC accept sick children?

No. CRCC is not a “sick” child care center. Children with contagious illnesses are not allowed to attend until their symptoms have improved, or until he or she has a physician’s approval to return to child care.

How do I enroll my child?

Contact the Client Care Coordinator at (402) 895-4000 for information about enrollment in CRCC’s programs for medically fragile and/or developmentally delayed children and its behavioral health services.

Does CRCC have a waiting list to get into its programs?

From time to time, certain classrooms may reach capacity, but every effort is made to assist families who need CRCC’s services. With some flexibility and an occasional short wait, most families can be accommodated.

What are CRCC’s hours?

CRCC Northwest is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Weekend Program runs most weekends, Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

CRCC Southwest is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What curriculum does CRCC use?

CRCC’s curriculum is based on the Teaching Strategies Gold model with adaptation to meet the unique needs of the children served. Within the curriculum, the preschool classrooms are able to focus on kindergarten readiness skills in preparation for school. In addition to Teaching Strategies Gold, CRCC offers a life skills program for school age children to promote independence and social skills.

How are classrooms arranged?

Classrooms are divided into age groups which include infants, toddlers, preschool and school age. Following the Creative Curriculum model, the classroom is arranged with centers that give children an opportunity to explore individually and as a group. Each classroom is also supplied with materials that are developmentally appropriate for that age group and foster continued growth and learning.

What are CRCC’s staff qualifications?

Nurses are required to hold an active RN or LPN license in the state of Nebraska. CRCC’s teaching staff meet Nebraska child care licensing requirements, with most lead teachers having the equivalent of a CDA or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in special education, early childhood education or another equivalent educational field. The behavioral staff exceeds the minimum qualifications for the positions. All CRCC’s staff is required to complete an intensive on-the-job training program specifically tailored to the services it provides.

Are staff backgrounds thoroughly investigated before they are allowed to work with children?

Absolutely. This is a state requirement and CRCC strives to be very thorough in performing such background checks. Each applicant is screened through the state of Nebraska’s Child Abuse/Neglect Registry and Sex Offender Registry. We also check the state of Nebraska’s Nurses’ Aide Registry for action against one’s certification. For nurses and therapists, licenses are checked for disciplinary action. Criminal background check and fingerprinting through the Nebraska State Patrol is completed for all employees. Each applicant also has at least two references checked before hiring.

Does CRCC provide services to foster children?

If a foster child qualifies to be enrolled in a CRCC program based on his or her special needs, then they would be eligible to receive services with appropriate authorization.

How can I schedule weekend care for my child?

All weekend care must be scheduled in advance. Children must be currently enrolled, or CRCC will need to complete an intake prior to reservations being accepted. To reserve care, parents/guardians need to call the Weekend Program Manager at (402) 496-1000 by Thursday of the week prior to needing care.

What are CRCC’s rates and what type of funding is available?

CRCC offers many services, and the rates vary depending on the program utilized. The Client Care Coordinator meets with each family to assess their child’s needs and provides specific information about the rates that apply. CRCC has contracts with Nebraska Health and Human Services in order to provide a variety of funding options for families. Options for funding include: Nebraska Medicaid, waiver programs; Title XX; insurance; League of Human Dignity; Medically Handicapped Children’s Program; Lifespan Respite; CRCC’s Subsidy Program and private pay.

Does CRCC offer payment plans?

Yes, CRCC strives to be fair and flexible in working out payment plans. The Client Care Coordinator and Billing Administrators work with families seeking different payment options. Credit cards or prepayment are the preferred methods of payment for those clients who utilize CRCC’s Patient Assistance Program.

Therapy FAQ

When should I be worried about my child’s developmental progress?

It can be helpful to refer to a developmental checklist to get an idea of the skills your child should be developing and on what timeline. If you have any concerns you should talk with your child’s pediatrician. Every child is different, and this includes the order and pace at which they develop skills. Your child’s pediatrician can help determine if your child is within a normal range of development or if they could benefit from a little extra help in catching up with their developmental milestones.

How do I know if my child needs an evaluation?

There are many reasons your child could benefit from therapy, including injury rehab, pain management, sensory concerns, delays in skills such as crawling, walking, dressing and grasping, difficulty with eating and swallowing, speech delay, balance concerns and many others. The best way to determine any skills that need further developing is through an evaluation. Your child’s pediatrician will be a great resource for helping you determine if your child would benefit from receiving therapy.

How is therapy at CRCC different from what my child can receive in a school?

CRCC provides therapy based on your child’s developmental milestones, and its ultimate goal is to help your child reach their full potential in life. The CRCC team works to make therapy a fun experience while teaching skills that will help your child be successful in environments outside of school. It can complement the therapy your child receives in school as well as provide additional skill development.

Who is eligible to participate in therapy?

Typically any child with a medical diagnosis (temporary or long term) can get approved for therapy services. However, CRCC always checks with your insurance provider to determine the exact level of coverage.

What insurances does CRCC accept?

CRCC accepts Nebraska Medicaid and managed cares, and is in-network for most commercial plans. Contact the Therapy Administrator at (402) 895-4000 with additional questions.

Does CRCC accept Iowa Medicaid for therapy services?

No. At this time, CRCC does not accept Iowa Medicaid for therapy services.

How are services authorized and funded?

Services are authorized by your child’s treating physician and, in certain instances, your insurance (if it requires a prior authorization). Therapy services for your child are funded by insurance or by private pay or a combination of both.

What services are provided?

CRCC offers physical, occupational, speech and feeding/swallowing therapy services. Evaluation and treatment for the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices is also provided.

What insurances does CRCC accept?

CRCC accepts Nebraska Medicaid and managed cares and is in-network for most commercial plans. Contact the Therapy Administrator at (402)895-4000 with additional questions.

When are services provided?

CRCC’S hours for therapy services are:

Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – noon

All evaluations must be completed Monday – Friday, with Saturdays reserved for treatment sessions.

How can I utilize therapy services?

This depends on your insurance, doctor’s orders and therapist recommendations.

What are the requirements for enrollment?

CRCC will screen anyone who requests therapy, but certain insurance companies will not pay or authorize services if the child does not have a medical diagnosis. In the case that your doctor has prescribed therapy services, CRCC would contact your insurance and take the necessary steps to schedule an evaluation.

Does my insurance cover this?

This is dependent on your insurance. Once CRCC finishes the phone intake, it will call your insurance company to verify your benefits and get back to you so options can be discussed (if you have private insurance/non-managed care). If you have a managed care insurance (such as Coventry Cares, Share Advantage Medicaid), services are typically covered in full as long as your carrier agrees that they are medically necessary. However, CRCC will still work with you to verify this.

Why can’t my child get therapy every day (five times a week)?

Usually therapists do not find it medically necessary to provide services five times a week. Since CRCC’s therapy services are structured on a medical model, insurance companies will not cover services five times per week. Typically, depending on your insurance and medical necessity, therapy will be one to two times per week per discipline.

I want therapy, so what’s next?

After the initial phone intake, CRCC will call your insurance company to verify your benefits and get back to you so options can be discussed. In the meantime, CRCC will also send in orders to your child’s physician. (If managed care) once it gets the orders back, it will submit for an authorization, which shouldn’t take longer than three days. From there, CRCC will contact you to schedule an evaluation.

Do I pay for care when my child is in therapy?

If your child is attending CRCC as part of the day or behavioral health program, yes, while they will not be in the classroom, your child remains signed in for care because this covers nursing needs. If your child comes as an outpatient, you will be with your child through the therapy and will not need to sign your child in.
